West Looks East
This spectacular Benefit Gala is a celebration of design through fashion. During this event there will be a visual presentation of traditional Arab costume followed by a live fashion presentation of couture creations provided by the generosity of several world renowned couture designers who have donated fabulous creations inspired by Arab costume and designs.
Generous donations of original couture creations received from:
These designers will be revealing their own visions of Arab influence on design through their creations. The ensembles will be available for auction after the Benefit (details to be determined). Proceeds of the evening, in addition to supporting Mosaic and our programming for the 2004-2005 year, will be used to initiate a telemedicine pilot program developed by the Children’s National Medical Center.
Both the Mosaic Foundation and Children’s National Medical Center are working together to implement a telemedicine pilot project in Morocco that will benefit Moroccan children and families with improved pediatric care. This program will provide improved diagnostic training, health education and access to assistance to doctors and healthcare workers, providing many at-risk children with life-saving treatment. We hope that this program may serve as a model for other countries and have a positive impact in the region many times over.
During 2004-2005, the Mosaic Foundation hosted a groundbreaking cultural program that focused on the many ways that traditional Arab designs influenced contemporary western designers through the centuries. This series has examined the influences on architecture, interior design, garden design, costume, decorative arts, jewelry, literature, and much more to enlighten the audience on just how interwoven are the historic, intellectual and artistic cultures of the West and Arab civilizations.
