Woven Influences: Islamic Costume & European Fashion

Dr. Walter Denny will take a look at th eartistic traditions of the Ottoman Turks, Islamic carpets and textiles, and issues of economics and patronage in Islamic art to highlight how Islamic fabrics have been incorporated into European ecclesiastical and royal costume since the Middle Ages and through todays couture fashions.

Dr. Denny is the Charles Grant Ellis Research Associate in Oriental Carpets at The Textile Museum and a professor of art history at the University of Massachusetts, and has published extensively in the field of Islam.
