Heritage Preservation & Regeneration in the Old City of Jerusalem

Mosaic Foundation’s Lecture Series continued with a lecture and Q&A from the 2004 Agha Khan Award for Architecture winner, Dr. Shadia Touqan.  Dr. Touqan is currently the director of the Old City of Jerusalem Revitalization Plan and a recognized authority on the preservation of cultural heritage.  She advises UNESCO in Bethlehem and Yemen and numerous urban development projects in the middle East.  She obtained her BSc in Architecture from Cairo University, her MA in Urban Design from Manchester University and her PhD in Urban Development and Planning from the University of London.  

Mosaic was proud to co-sponsor this lecture with the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and was honored to have John Fowler, Chairman of the Board of US/ICOMOS as moderator for this lecture.  Dr. Touqan spoke on her work to revitalize Old Jerusalem and took questions from the audience. 

The lecture was held on October 24th, 2007 at 12:00 pm in the Auditorium of the National Geographic Society headquarters located at 1145 17th Street NW in Washington, D.C., within walking distance of Metrorail's Farragut North and Farragut West stations.
