The Mosaic Foundation is an American charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and children through its support of local and transnational organizations and charities by providing grants that build civil society and strengthen the social infrastructure of the recipient countries. The Mosaic Foundation promotes awareness, understanding, and appreciation between the peoples of the Arab World and the United States through its charitable, humanitarian, and cultural involvement in both regions.
Summary of programs
Since its establishment in 1997, the Mosaic Foundation has raised and donated over seven million dollars to local, national, and international institutions. The Mosaic Foundation's complete giving history is also available.
The Mosaic Foundation grants program offers grants under three categories:
Major Beneficiary: Each year, the Mosaic Foundation chooses an outstanding educational or charitable institution or a compelling cause to be the recipient of its annual campaign. Read More.
World Emergency Fund: The aim of this grant category is to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression by assisting victims of major world disasters. Read More.
Trustees Grants: Provides financial support to encourage projects that demonstrate strong ties with the Mosaic Foundation's mission to improve the lives of women and children and/or provide a deeper understanding between the people of Arab World and the United States. Read More.
Awarding of Grants
The Mosaic Foundation grant making process is conducted by the Grants Committee in an impartial manner upon an evaluation of each project request. The Grants Committee makes its recommendations to the Board for its deliberation and decision. Therefore, solicitation of individual members of the Mosaic Foundation's Board of Directors by potential recipients for specific grant requests is strongly discouraged.
2007 - 2008 Granting Cycles and Proposal Deadlines
Project proposals are accepted throughout the year and slated for review and action within three decision cycles annually: October, January, and June.
The Grant Cycle for June is now closed. Our Grants Committee is in the process of reviewing Letters of Intent, and will notify applicants when the process is complete. Please check back for updates.
Limitations
In all cases, only those organizations classified as "public" charities and tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code are considered. The Mosaic Foundation will not consider grants for individuals, capital campaigns, fundraising events, operating costs, or salaries (unless it is a one time project). The Foundation will not provide funds to lobby legislation or to influence public elections.
The Mosaic Foundation cannot provide grants to individuals or organizations that:
Discriminate for any reason including discrimination based on race, religion, creed, age, sex, or national origin.
Are sectarian or religious, unless the program or project to be funded is for nonreligious purposes.
Are designed to influence legislation or elect candidates to public office such as political action committees.
Responsibility of Grant Recipient
The recipient of any grant from the Mosaic Foundation must use the funds awarded for the specific purpose for what they were originally intended. The Mosaic Foundation requires that a detailed accounting of all funds along with a follow-up report on the activity or activities funded be submitted no more than a year from the date of the award. Any funds not used in the above manner specified must be returned to the Mosaic Foundation.
